Baptism is the first and most necessary of the seven sacraments instituted by Christ. By this sacrament, we are washed clean of original sin and given the new life of grace, we are reborn as children of God and incorporated into the Church.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me” and the Church urges parents to have their children baptized soon after birth.
Parents seeking baptism for their child are to meet with the priest and receive suitable instruction, and preparation classes with other parents. The preparation classes help parents understand the importance and meaning of the sacrament and to familiarize themselves with the Rite of Baptism.
It is also customary to give an offering to the church on the occasion of the baptism of a child, $75.00 is an acceptable donation.
