Lectors
There has been a long-standing tradtion of the Sacred Assembly participating in the Proclamation of the Word of God. The Gospel is reserved to the Deacon, and if there is no Deacon, then it is the role of the Priest to proclaim the Sacred Text. The other parts of the liturgy of the Word are the domain of the congregation. It is there role to ensure that the Word of the Lord is given voice.
"Yours is a share in the work of the Lord's Spirit who opens our hearts to God's holy word. Yours is the task of telling our family story, the story of salvation. Yours is to proclaim the true and saving word of God. You are the messenger of God's love for us. Your task is to proclaim that word, which challenges, confronts, and captures our hearts." - Austin Fleming "Preparing For Liturgy."
